ANTENNA FOR FEELING:
A series of material developments woven on various looms; floorloom, mechanical dobby, and AVL.
“Antenna for Feeling” considers interconnectedness across various systems, expanding the notion of fabric through a socialist, feminist perspective of the body in the 21st century. The ‘bodies’ that make your textiles include computerized machines, individual hands, and cultural structures. Thus, computer coding, the tissue of the body, and social fabric become phenomena of study and reference.
Questions like, “What do empathy and circuitry have in common?” drive an investigation of antennae and antennas of all kinds. Multiple modes of subtle communication, visible and invisible, are represented in color and pattern symbology. In this way, a petri-dish-like perspective acts as a window of mediation into the universal.
